In the month of March, 1914, there were reported to the Department 1,404 fires and in the same month in 1915--802 fires, a reduction of 602, which shows conclusively that the public is awakening to their own interest and giving heed to the necessity of using more care in the disposition of waste, which is responsible for the greatest number of avoidable fires. Of the 802 fires reported in March, 522 or 65% were in dwellings, directly chargeable to carelessness, and is a reflection on the housekeeper and can and should be remedied by paying more attention to the removal and destruction of rubbish and waste from the inside and around homes and other buildings. Don't complain of your neighbor's neglect, but look around and see if your own premises are in a condition as to be free from criticism. In thirty States and in many towns throughout this State, a special clay has been set apart as A CLEAN UP DAY.
