Brassai shows us the solitary news vendor, whose offering of the Literary Digest and La Lingerie places him clearly in a moment of time, while the photographs of Paris night fairs and firefighters have a timeless quality that today's visitor can still see. Every effort has been made to reproduce the original photographs as they have never been seen in book form before. Produced under the close supervision of Brassai's heirs, the book has been printed in heliogravure in a quality rarely seen these days, giving it an extraordinary and memorable texture. To complete the evocation of the period, the Pantheon edition contains the original introduction by the French writer Paul Morand." Publisher's note: "The original edition of Paris by Night, published as Paris de nuit in Paris in 1933, contained sixty-four reproductions of photographs by Brassai, printed in heliogravure. The current edition has been printed in heliogravure using Brassai's original plates, with the exception of seven photographs for which the plates have disappeared and which have been reproduced from the 1933 edition: numbers 2, 49, 55, 58, 59, 60, 61, as well as the paving-stones appearing on the endpapers."
