He walked slowly—leisurely, as if all the time in the world was in his hands—and circled around the room. There was one crying at the back, probably because he was the first bound and the longest unfed. The man did not care about him though. If not, his cries only spurred the devil inside the man further.
He tore off his clothes and lied next to his favorite, the good Captain John Smith who was too kind and too naïve. There were no tears on the eyes of this one—no. He remained brave through it all. He might even be enjoying it. He was changed and there was no turning back. Only death could satisfy the hunger in his soul.
The man hugged John from behind. “Do you hear him?” he whispered. “Do you hear his cries?”
John nodded, unable to answer with the kerchief tied on his mouth.
“Do his cries turn you on? Do they inspire you?”
John nodded again and there was not one single scared shake from the tiniest bones in his body. He was calm and relaxed.
The man hated it.
He stood up and dragged John by the feet and his sweating body made a squeaking sound against the hardwood floor. He knew that he promised himself that John would be the last one to go but it was a promise he couldn’t keep. The serenity in John’s body and the ease with which he accepted his fate were not fun for the man. He hated it. It made him hate himself.
John would be the first to go.
