During the long winter evenings in our home camp the second winter we spent in the Northern wilderness, we busied ourselves copying a journal which we kept the winter before, but with no idea of ever putting it before the public, nor the one we kept the second winter. But when we saw so many writing about the woods and giving such flowery descriptions of the good times they had had, we thought we would have our book published, and give it to the people — a plain record of facts, without any change to make it into a romance.
